A love for Jo Malone

26 October 2017

I have been a huge fan of Jo Malone ever since my mum got one of those infamous yellow boxes wrapped in a silk bow for Christmas years ago. At the time I had never seen anything so luxurious, topped with a bow and very grown up. She had the Lime Basil and Mandarin scent and I was blown away. It smelt so sophisticated, fresh and nothing like the perfumes my 13 year old self had never been graced with from the body mists I frequently used. Funny that eh?

Since then I have since purchased/been Christmas gifted the scent over the years and I will not be slowing down anytime soon. I still adore the lime and basil, it's my go to summer scent and I love dousing my bath in the oil. It's my perfect night in, pouring this goodness into my bath.

My other favourite scents conclude of the Pomegranate Noir, Blackberry and Bay, Peony and Blush Suede, and the Wood Sage and Sea salt. Dreamy. I have yet to purchase any of the candles as I usually stick to cheaper candles from TKMax but think its time to break this cycle and treat ma'self.

Are you a fan? What's your favourite Jo Malone scent?

Thoughts on a Future Home

25 October 2017

I cannot wait to finally be a homeowner someday. I have dreamt about it for so long. I remember as a kid all/ I wanted to do was help my mum paint and decorate our house but at seven years old she was obviously always reluctant. I loved trips to B&Q, nicking paint chips and wallpaper samples, looking at the bathrooms and kitchens and choosing which one I would like for my future house.

The same goes for idea, even now (Please tell me I'm not the only one who sits in the living rooms and pretends it's theirs... Just me?), I just love exploring all the different homewards and how people style and decorate their homes, I love programs such as grand designs and small spaces. Sometimes I wish that I had followed that career path.

It's one of the reasons why I was so taken with Pinterest all those years ago, I remember stumbling upon it and requesting to be a member when I was like seventeen! I used to keep so many files on my laptop of different homes and so Pinterest was a goldmine for me as I could just keep all the images on a board! My laptop was thankful for all the free space after I signed up!

These days I have a board on every room in a house and hundreds of different ways to style them and I love to scroll through them every once in a while. I can't stop thinking of my future home and saving up to renovate it the way I want. I have had so many aesthetics that I wanted to plan my home around such as a bohemian style (at one point I completely ruled out sofas and wanted floor cushions!) and even a Scandi style house which would be only minimalistic and monochrome. I have even wanted to indulge my more girly side and go for gold, marble and pink, I think Mathieu is glad that I've opted out of that... But as I've gotten older I've come to the realisation that what I want is simple, practical and homely. I still want character and it to be beautiful when I have people over but I still want it to be comfortable.

I now imagine hardwood floors, exposed brick walls, and bright off white walls. I would love lots of Windows and shutters to fill the room with light. After living in a flat in a city centre we have three Windows that are in our spare room, and living room so I cannot wait to have an airy light space. I want to invest in my furniture. I love IKEA for the prices and practicality but I adore Etsy and love browsing the furniture sections. I want the place I love in to have character in ways where our furniture can tell a story. I love walking into someone's home and asking where they got things for it to have a story behind it. I would love a handmade coffee table and art collected from our travels. Vintage things that are quirky and one of a kind. I think that wall art is another important thing for me. I want photos of my holidays, artwork and even some sculptures maybe, if I'm feeling fancy. After living in rented accommodation for so long where we aren't allowed things on the wall I have the feeling I'm gonna go to town in my further home. Another thing I want my house to be filled with is plants and flowers. I want greenery and life in my house. We never had that in my home growing up but Mathieu and I have lots of plant babies at the moment. They are slowly taking over and reclaiming our flat!

I am also looking forward to decorating my future bathroom. I can't wait to turn it into a mini spa. A place to relax and unwind at the end of the day. Mathieu knows that on a Sunday night the bathroom is mine, where the candles, face mask, and bath oils come out. He knows not to knock unless it's an emergency. I love pinning bathrooms on Pinterest and looking at the different styles. All I definitely know I need is a freestanding bath and shower. I want a big tub to soak in and a separate shower. After growing up and having a free standing shower to then move into a flat with a shower and bath in one is not an easy transition! I fall nearly every time I wash my hair and have a sing song & lose my balance... Maybe I should just stop the singing...

Another thing that I am looking for would be an open plan dining room, living room and kitchen. I love having people over, cooking meals (well I just drink tha wine and Mat does the cooking), and hosting parties. But in our tiny flat it's a nightmare. I want everything to be open plan so we can work in the kitchen whilst we can still have a natter whilst our guests sit in the living room.

And last of all what I can't wait for is a garden! Oh how I miss having a garden. I think that's the one thing that Mathieu and I pine for the most. Living in the centre of a city just gives us the local parks to wander in but I miss Barbecues and summer nights in a garden and Mathieu wants nothing more than to start his own vegetable patch.

So I think that's pretty much everything that I want in my future home, so not much haha. When we finally start looking it's going to be fun! I love thinking about it and I know it's going to take time but I can't wait to have all this someday, and finally try to get through to Mathieu that he can have a shed or a garage as his man cave not a while room.

Does anyone else envision their future home? What do you want in yours?

Coconut Oil Uses

22 October 2017

You know when coconut oil was a huge trend? Yeah I have really stuck to it. I love the stuff. I have a tub in my bathroom, on my nightstand, and two in my fridge. Excessive? Yes. But I use it for everything. I am all for a natural product and I basically use the stuff for everything. In the bathroom I use it as a hair mask, make up remover, oil pulling (see here) and even to shave my legs. Tmi? I keep a pot on my night stand and use it as a body lotion. I smother my legs and arms in it and my knees have never been smoother. And for the kitchen I basically threw out all my different oils and just use a tiny bit of this when cooking. Coconut oil + a stir fry = heaven.

Have you used Coconut oil before?

My Daily Face

12 October 2017

Today I'm going to talk about what's on face everyday in case you're interested.

I like to go for a dewy look. I stay away from matte products as I cannot stand the feel of thick make up on my face. I honestly don't use match make up just a bit of concealer, a foundation, something for my eyebrows, mascara and a tiny bit of contour on my cheeks so I don't look like a pie. These three products have been my go-to's for awhile now, slightly upgrading my Nars concealer stick with the pot which I adore.

I find these products give my skin (which is a combination of sensitive, oily and normal) a nice subtle glow with the right amount of coverage. I prefer a dewy look whilst only sometimes mattefying some problem areas during hot and colder days as I don't want to call attention to them by making them glow haha.

Laura Mercier Foundation Primer Radiance

I was gifted this by a friend, it's a sample version but I like to test these things. I love this stuff. I used to think primers were just there to make you spend more money on another product that you just don't need but now I have tried some that I love and actually work. This one by Laura Mercier gives a lovely glowy base before applying my foundation and lets my foundation glide over my skin and sits well for the day. I notice that I do need to make sure that I apply properly as if not patted/rubbed in properly it leaves shimmery marks/patches that do not come off easily. I noticed I had not rubbed in a dot by my ears and I had to scrub to get it off.

Nars Soft Matte Concealer

So this little pot is rather new for me. I've been a fan of the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer stick for the longest time and I loved it but I found that it just ran out so quickly. Maybe I'm spottier than I realised? When I was browsing Space NK awhile back now I spotted the this pot and I just assumed it was the same creamy concealer in a pot but it turns out its the soft matte concealer but I was suprised at how unmatte it is. It's a good thing for me as I don't like matte products but I guess it would be annoying if you were in the market for a matte concealer and bought this, I feel like it would not be for you. Anyway, back to the concealer. It works wonders. It gives such great coverage. I mainly use it under my eyes when I haven't had much sleep and also on the jawline of my skin where I get most of my spots, lovely. I do love this little pot but I need to find a concealer that doesn't stick to the creases under my eyes, wrinkly problems yeah. If anyone know of such a product please let me know!

Nars Sheer Glow Foundation

I struggled for so long to find a nice high end foundation that left my skin dewy and gave good coverage. It's not like I didn't want much eh? I also wanted a foundation that was Cruelty Free, which at the time was pretty hard for high end make up brands but these days more and more companies are going cruelty free. I stalk Cruelty Free Kittys blog to double check my need, I use her as my make up directory. I then came across Nars and they were one of the CF brands that I was very drawn too, who isn't when it comes to their sleek luxury packaging? I went with the Sheer Glow and opted for no pump as I feel that just wastes the product. I was blown away colour match (I use Santa Fe) and its beautiful. I sweep it on and it does wonders. As I mentioned above, I do need to conceal problem areas first as it hasn't got the staying power to cover them alone but I have some natural redness around my nose area and forehead and a little on my lower cheeks and after applying, the foundation just looks so natural and I wear this everyday.

Do you have a daily base?

My Jewellery Box

05 October 2017

Let's have a little peek at my Jewellery box. I'm not going to lie I do not have enough jewellery to even warrant a jewellery box but I just wanted to show it off. I bought this little gold and glass case when I was about seven from an antique shop on a day out with my mum. I used to love our Saturdays together. We used to jump in the car, stop at Waitrose and grab some munchies for our road trip and would drive two or three hours to a little town and spend the day exploring.

I picked this up in a small welsh town called Caerphilly and I was obsessed. I loved anything small that had little doors/drawers, (I secretly hoarded tiny bottles as a kid). I just had to have them. I bought this with my pocket money and have held onto it ever since. It has taken a back seat in storage at my mums for a while, underneath the stairs. I think it has been pushed against the roof of the stairs and the vibrations have caused the glass to crack a little which is a shame but I still love it. As I was sorting out my stuff under my mums stairs (think Monica’s secret closet) I stumbled across it and just had to take it home and find a use for it. Then I stumbled across this image on Pinterest and saw someone using it as a jewellery box. I was amazed as I've never seen another one before.

Anyway it now houses a small amount of jewellery that I have collected. I'm so unbelievably fussy when it comes to jewellery. I like gold, delicate pieces that have a story behind them. Etsy is my go to  place to browse gems but after finding shops such as Missoma and Mejuri I have fallen in love and have added most pieces from their sites to my wishlist.

At the moment it currently houses my Daniel Wellington watch which is the love of my life. I've never been into watches and have always wanted a plain but classic brown and gold one but never got around to buying one until Mat bought this for me for Christmas a couple of years ago. I love it. I always feel a bit more classy and sophisticated when wearing it which is a bonus for me as my usual attire is my work uniform which is usually covered in paint, glue, glitter, or some kind of slime. So yeah, upgrading to my DW watch on the weekends works for me.

I also have some bracelets from & other stories. I love their jewellery and the scandi style. I usually find that they have some really pretty and quirky pieces that are delicate and gold which is right up my street. I also have some H&M earrings and a charity shop find necklace which is the geode on the gold chain. I love this and get so many compliments from it. A 50p bargain in my eyes.

So I haven't got much in it at the moment but I'm going to start asking mat to get me some pretty pieces for birthdays and Christmas's and hopefully I can start building up a nice little collection.

I also have this little quartz topped with a gold frog on top of the box that Mat bought me once. He's french and I always call him a french frog so he gifted me this and it makes me chuckle whenever I see it.

Have you got any favourite jewellery brands you love?

LUSH loves

03 October 2017

Don't we all love lush? I can't place my finger on the only reason that takes me there. I've only been addicted for a couple of years. I always thought it was just over priced bath bombs and my mum used to have her own gift shop and so I used to nick the bath bombs and bath oils from her shop. But now I'm a total convert and I kick myself every time for being g so late (as with everything in life so it would seem) to the lush party. I now have some serous faves that are always in my bathroom and thought I would just share a few.

Honey I washed the kids soap

Okay this is technically Mathieu favourite but I adore the smell of it. When ever we run out it's the first thing I replace and the sweet honey smell is now a comfort. Mathieu uses it daily and the scent works so well with his skin, I am always reminded of him when ever i smell it.

Rose jam

This stuff is. Bomb. I was pretty gutted when they discontinued and I think now I can only get it online at Christmas? But they do stock a rose jam bubbleroon in store and I pick that up whenever I'm feeling sorry for myself as it smells amazing. I personally feel like I'm taking a bath in Turkish delight after using it, it smells that great.

Floating Island

This little gem is my bestie. I love this oil. I'm big on bath oil even though my mum yells at me that it'll block drains but, yolo. I love the scent of this, the vanilla and sandalwood is so calming  and I love that it has shea butter in it and I swear it makes my skin smoother after the bath!

Tea tree toner

I swear that this bottle works miracles. I love toners and have a few firm favourites but this is one that I first started to take seriously. I honestly feel like if I use it three days in a row it just quenches my skin and keeps breakouts at bay! I always recommend this.

I have a few more faves (it was hard just writing about just these four!) but for now I'll leave it here! There are a few things that I've been eyeing up and these are up next on my wish list: a perfume, Rosy Cheeks, a massage bar, and the Yuzu and Cocoa body wash.

What are your favourite Lush products?
