How I create a dewy base

Towards the end of January I slowly feel myself detesting the month. At the beginning I love celebrating and making resolutions to make an organised fresh start but as the days drag on I feel myself getting into a rut. The weather is crap, it's cold, everything is grey and depressing, it's cold, and payday is too far away. Did I mention it's cold? 

Everything just snowballs and I am almost comforted when I hear that I'm not the only one. Aside from my bank account the other thing that suffers in January is my skin. After the rich christmassy food, bubbles from new year, the make up that it endures from these holidays (Lets not even go to the period in-between Christmas and New Year where everyone is still in food comas and doesn't know what day it is!). 

I like to take a bit of time to make my self feel a bit more "perky" in the face department by ensuring that I drink all the water and mask myself up on a Sunday night, then for day to day try and sort out my lacklustre skin by giving it a bit of a glow. I am not a matte person. If I see the phrase matte on a product I back away and move on. It just doesn't bode well with my skin. I feel my skin looks better with a dewy finish. I top off any blemishes with concealer and then just leave them alone, so I tend to stay away from thicker and heavier full coverage options. I prefer tinted moisturisers, BB creams and anything that easily wipes off in general. 

My favourite go to's for a dewy base is the Laura Mercier Foundation Primer which leaves a nice shimmer to the skin. That sounds horrifying but it's not a bad thing. It leaves my skin feeling prepped and smooth ready for my foundation.

For my lightweight base I love the Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser. I go through tubes of this during the summer. For me it is the perfect base.. It leaves you glowing and as the title suggests, radiant. I have heard that some people find it to "wet" or "grease" like on their skin but thats how I need it. If I wear full coverage/matte products they feel so heavy on my face and I feel like I've been plastered. 

I love usingblush in the colder months. I love the pop of colour it brings, something we all need in these greys. I'm not the biggest fan of powders as, once again they feel to heavy on my skin, so I always try to opt for a cream blush unless something really catches my eye. I always go for the Stila Cream Blush in Lilium and the tiniest amount brings such a nice colour to top off that dewy glow. 

I'm not a lipstick person, I usually opt for balms or tints and I love the Benefit tints. I couldn't resist this mini from a sample set. I love all the colours they do but at the moment I'm favouring this Posietint Lip and Cheek Stain mini. It's the nicest bright lip to finish off a radiant look.

Health & Wellbeing

With a new year hopefully comes a new me. I love to make resolutions and keeping healthy always makes my list. It may not always stick and may cause me to indulge in a chocolate orange three weeks in but at least I try right? 

On one note I do love to make smoothies or smoothie bowls, they are a regular in my home and I love to fill them with good stuff that I might be missing out on. I thought I would share what they are.

One kitchen cupboard staple for me is coconut oil. I use it on everything, see this post, and I mean it. I use it for cooking whenever something requires a bit of oil this is my go to. Usually it's for my vegan pancakes and stirfrys, yum. 

I also add a few supplements to the mix, especially to my smoothies. I have three powders that I mix in to give them that extra bit of nutritional value. I am by no means a nutritionist but I am a very fussy vegetarian who is borderline vegan. I don't like milk or eggs and I don't eat meat but I avoid most veggies like the plague! So if theres a way to trick me like a child to eat said veggies I am game. I use these powders in my green smoothies as they are green and will turn any smoothie a grotesque colour unless it is a green one. As pictured is Wheatgrass and Spirulina, and another that I add in is Barley Grass. 

I add Wheatgrass for benefits such as detoxifying, keeping my blood pressure healthy, for cleansing my blood and organs and slowing down the ageing process. I'm not opposed to growing old as it's a gift denied to many but if I grow old slowly then that's a bonus haha. 

I use Spirulina as it's high in iron, calcium and vitamin B, which helps me out when I'm stuck in a food rut. 

And although it's not pictured, I also add in Barley Grass Juice powder for all of it's wonders. This powder helps to alkalise the body,  is rich in antioxidants and helps create natural energy all whilst improving your digestion and rebuilding your immune system. 

I also have a few little pills that I take every now and then. I take cod liver oil as I have the joints of an 80 year old that click every time I move. I also take hair, skin and nails which I also get from Holland & Barret, as I love the little boost it gives my nails when they're struggling to grow.

Happy New Year

How are we already in 2018? 

I started this little space in September! How has it already been five months? I feel like I was only jus setting goals fro 2017 that I had no intention of keeping! 

Any how, I hope everyone has had joyous holidays and a happy Christmas! Is everyone else feeling motivated for the new year or are they still in a food coma like yours truly…

I am one of those people who love the start of January, the new fresh start feeling but I then slowly succumb to the January blues of gloomy days, being broke and hiding guiltily from my usual “get fit” resolutions.

I still like to make them every year even though I do tend to forget about them but this year I have a few incentives to keep me going. 

1.  Try Veganuary. I have been a veggie for fifteen years! I have always wanted to try veganism but y’know, cheese. I don’t eat eggs, and I already substitute milk and chocolate for dairy free versions so hopefully I’ll be able to do it, but I want to ease myself in and try Veganuary for a bit of self control and support! I might even blog it to keep myself motivated. 

2. Loose weight and get fit. Yes this is usually number one on most peoples lists. This year I need to loose two stone! My incentive is to fit into my wedding dress and feel good on the day. I have my first dress fitting in March and I can’t wait to see it on and feel great. 

3. Be more blog present. I go through periods where I neglect my blog and I hate that. I feel so frustrated that I can’t get my ideas and words across on here, and also feeling “intimidated” and having a sense of being unworthy when you see all the bloggers here on social media. I just need to remember that I am here for me.

4. Try Youtube. I have been toying with the idea of starting a Youtube channel for a while now, I think I would really enjoy it. I love watching logs and love that you get a real insight to the vlogger and their personality. Here’s hoping that I can give it a go! 

5. Life things. Get married, Pay deposit on house, Get dog, Get car. I never thought I would have a checklist life but here I am and I love it haha.

My tips for having a gloom-free January

  • Don’t do it all at once when it comes to your resolutions, take your time and improve yourself
  • For cold gloomy nights, get into the wintery spirit again like you did in December and cosy up with a book an hot chocolate
  • Have a Spring clean. Nothing lifts your spirit than having a good sort out and clean
  • Be positive, to yourself and others
